Why are we so bad at defending?

Missed the match today bar the last 15-20mins
Family and friends really get in the way of the three Fs
(football, fishing & F1)
Hearing some of the comments as the match was going on,
you would think we dont know how to defend
"Bring bould-y in as defensive coach"
And most people talk about the 05/06 season
when Keown was with the back room staff
and we had nine clean sheets in champions league on the bounce.
I've always said the whole coaching staff were defenders
So i thought id take a closer look.

Wenger played as a defender for various amateur clubs
till he turned pro in 1978,
making his debut for RC Strasbourg against Monaco.
He only made twelve appearances for the team,
including two as they won the Ligue 1 title in 1978–79.

Boro Primorac was known as an uncompromising defender
he stared in Yugoslavia before moving to France.
As a international helped his country achieve fourth place in the 1980 Olympic Games
and played an important part in its qualification for the 1982 World Cup.
During his time at Velez Mostar
he was key in the side reaching second place in the top division, its highest-ever position.
In France he played for Cannes and Lille before turning to coaching.

Neil was a central defender, Banfield had a fairly undistinguished career as a centre half, playing for Crystal Palace (1979-80) and Leyton Orient (1983-84), with a spell at Australian side Adelaide City in between. He represented Grays Athletic before his stint in the Football League.

Pat Rice
Playing at right back, was initially a bit-part player,
Peter Storey was Arsenal's first choice right back, but after he was moved into central midfield at the start of the 1970-71, Rice took his place and was a near-ever present in the side that season, as Arsenal won the League and FA Cup Double.
Rice remained first-choice right back for the rest of the 1970s,
playing in the 1972 FA Cup Final as well;
he was an ever-present for three seasons — 1971-72, 1975-76, 1976-77.
Out of the Double-winning side, he was the one who remained at the club the longest,
and became club captain in 1977.
As captain, Rice had the honour of lifting the FA Cup after Arsenal beat ManU '79,
as well as losing two finals in 1978 and 1980.
He was the only Arsenal player to play in all five of the club's FA Cup Finals between 1971 and 1980,
a club record shared with David Seaman and Ray Parlour.
He also led Arsenal to the 1980 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup Final,
which Arsenal lost on penalties to Valencia.
And has been with club for everyone of the double's. '71 '98 '02

Does this coaching CV look like they couldn't run a stag in brothel.
I dont think so
but that's one stag do i'd go on.

What to take from the game
fabianski needs a force field at corners
poor guys just got no confidence coming for it since blackburn
big sam has ruined him
Boy needs a loan abroad spain or something

The defenders must of been out on the piss
cos didnt seem up for it at all.
TV got rush of blood to the head for the second
went to clear a ball he was never gona get
and left his man free who scored

Luckily we only have trip to anfield next week

On brighter news Big jack wilshere gibbs and theo
are all included in the england squad
shame the friendly date at just before the start  of the season
but dont think fifa take in consideration england when they announce friendly dates

Cesc and Vela are off to mexico to play each other
Hope cesc pulls an arsenal shirt on reina.

Glowing CVs failed to support results, and that is a stark reality, not navel picking on some past performances. The statistics highlighted season after season where the weakest link is,there is no cover to hide,CV especially is only paper thin. Not only a defence coaching setup needs an overhaul, and that is glaring, but the finishing department could benefit from our old No.10's offer. Denis offered coaching to strikers on finishing a couple of seasons back then. It is high time to take up his offer as well. The present setup is good for passing, let it stay that way,but corrective measures now would assign most woes to the past,no more frustrations so close to the bench time and again. Or do nothing but quoting CVs,and live in cloud coo coo land.

but is defencive drilling a thing of the past with possesion and pressing being better ways of winning and keeping the ball i mean think wenger would implementing sacchi type drills for the whole team and no ball. kind of goes against his "playing without the hand break" mantra

The same mistakes keep on happening, do the Maths Wenger we need a top notch keeper who will then clam the defence down, we need organisation at the back, better cover from the midfield we push up too much and get caught out, we will not win any silverware so my expectations will stop me having kittens when I see Flapinski or Alumina in goal, instead I will enjoy the games lie I use to instead of believing all the Wenger spin, he said the team were suffering from heavy legs, what utter tosh most of them have enjoyed a nice summer break, the excuses are coming in early, enjoy the season fellow Gooners but don't expect too much
